Facebook Bought Instagram, but How Does That Impact Marketers?

APRIL 18, 2012: Emily Kiryluik, Marketing Coordinator
Social Media Marketing Strategy Mobile

One of the biggest stories last week was Facebook buying Instagram for $1 billion. Along with the acquisition came user threats to delete accounts from those wanting no part of the social media conglomerate.  However, most embraced the deal – including marketers. So, how can we as marketers use the billion-dollar deal to our advantage?

How about creating an Instagram account and linking it to your company Facebook page? This allows you to instantly connect with your followers by giving them real-time pictures … you can now snap an image of a billboard or contest winner and add a filter without the help of your graphics team.

Another advantage for marketers?  Instagram's mobile app. If you've ever used Facebook's app, you're aware that it is full of glitches. By acquiring Instagram, the social media site's mobile app will adopt their smooth-running photo capture features.

Many people don't like change, but with the right tools and creative angle, you can work it to your advantage.
